A personal trainer for weight loss in Los Angeles

I'm Onur Can, a personal trainer and nutrition coach. I help busy professionals lose 20, 30, 35 pounds with strength training and food they can live with. No crash diets, and no living in the gym.

Why most weight loss doesn't last

Cut calories hard without lifting, and a chunk of what you lose is muscle. You end up smaller but softer, your metabolism drops, and the weight comes back the moment life gets busy. Most of my clients have already been through that cycle with a class, an app, or a diet.

We do it in a different order. Strength training holds on to your muscle, so what leaves is fat. That's the difference between losing weight and changing how you look.[1]

Food is most of it

Training earns you the change. Food makes it happen. I'm certified in nutrition coaching through Precision Nutrition, and we build your eating around your real life: client dinners, travel weeks, the schedule that never sits still.

If a plan only works when life is calm, it's not a plan.

What the first 90 days look like

Your first session is an assessment as much as a workout. We train, go over your training history and injuries, and set the target. If you have recent bloodwork, bring it and I'll read it with you.

The first month is strength training two or three times a week and a protein and calorie target built around how you actually eat. From there we adjust based on what your weight trend, waist, and lifts are doing, not guesses. Travel weeks get planned, not written off.

By day 90 you should see it in the mirror, in your clothes, and in the numbers. If something isn't moving, we change the plan, not the goal.

Justin, in his own words

Justin works in film. After years of plateaus with classes and apps, he lost 20+ pounds. Michael P. works in medicine and lost 35 pounds in eight months, and his blood pressure came back to normal at his checkup. One Beneviv client transformation was featured in Men's Health.

I'm a coach, not a doctor, so keep your doctor in the loop.

On a GLP-1, or thinking about one?

On its own, a GLP-1 works like a crash diet. Appetite drops, calories drop, and the weight comes off fast. The bars at the top of this page apply here too: without lifting and enough protein, a chunk of what leaves is muscle and other lean mass. In the largest semaglutide trial, roughly 40% of the weight lost was lean mass, not fat.[2]

That's how people end up lighter but weaker, and it's part of why the weight comes back when the medication stops. In the same trial, people regained two-thirds of the weight within a year of stopping.[3] Pair it with strength training and the picture flips. The medication handles appetite. Training decides what the lost weight is made of.

I also review bloodwork with clients, so we track more than the number on the scale. Medication decisions stay between you and your doctor.

Where we train

We train 1-on-1 at Transform Fitness on West 3rd Street, Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM. I also come to homes and building gyms in parts of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood. Home sessions have a travel charge.

Traveling a lot? We can do the whole thing through online coaching.

How to get started

Your first in-person session is free. We'll train, talk about where you are and where you want to be, and you'll know by the end whether this fits. Programs start with a 3-month minimum.

Common questions

How fast will I lose weight?

It depends on your starting point and how consistent the weeks are. Clients like Justin and Michael lost 20 to 35 pounds over four to eight months. I care more about the weight staying off than how fast it comes off, and results vary.

Do I have to stop eating at restaurants?

No. My clients eat out for work and travel often, so the nutrition plan is built around that. If a plan only works when life is calm, it's not a plan.

Do you work with people on weight-loss medication?

Yes. On its own, a GLP-1 works like a crash diet: fast loss, muscle included. Strength training and enough protein protect your muscle while the weight comes off. Medication decisions stay between you and your doctor.

How much does it cost?

It depends on how often we train and where. I go over pricing after your free first session.
